SOUND AUSTRALIA is hitting the UK with a bang this month, presenting four showcasing events and working with more than 25 Australian artists and over 50 music industry representatives.
Starting in London with an expert panel focused on UK festivals, before moving to Brighton for The Great Escape music conference (19-21 May), the Australian delegation has already generated significant interest in its UK activity.
This will be the 8th year SOUNDS AUSTRALIA has been at The Great Escape, and over that time the initiative has developed an enviable set of contacts within the UK music industry. These top tastemakers and music professionals will attend the annual SOUNDS AUSTRALIA Luncheon, an invite only event co-presented by the Australian High Commission, to network with Australian artist managers and industry.
The Great Escape will also feature two SOUNDS AUSTRALIA showcases; SOUND GALLERY and THE AUSSIE BBQ. These events offer a platform for 18 artists to perform, and shine the spotlight on some of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming musicians.
This year, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA has been recognised for its significant export achievements, receiving two nominations at the Yearly Music Convention Awards (YMCAs):
• BEST SHOWCASE for THE AUSSIE BBQ (Reeperbahn) and
• BEST EXPORT OFFICE.
Queensland’s BIGSOUND also received a nomination for Best Convention Centre. The awards will take place Saturday 21 May in Brighton.
Following on from Australia’s strong presence at The Great Escape, THE AUSSIE BBQ will return to London (22 May). Famously known as the biggest showcase of Australian music in the UK, the BBQ is now considered a key platform for discovering new Australian talent.
Rounding out its extensive program of UK activity, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA will mark its 7th visit to music conference Liverpool Sound City (28-29 May) by giving showcasing artists an additional opportunity to perform in market at THE AUSSIE BBQ.
Outside of the UK, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA will continue flying the flag for Australian artists and industry at conferences and events in Barcelona, Rotterdam, Cannes and New York.
