Stepping up its support for Australian music in the digital space, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA has become a global curator on Apple Music, gaining worldwide visibility for SOUNDS AUSTRALIA’s suite of playlists and making it easier for Apple Music customers around the world to discover and listen to Australian music.
SOUNDS AUSTRALIA began expanding its digital presence in January by developing playlists on Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify and YouTube, and more recently Pandora, as a way for international industry, media and music fans to hear Australian artists who are already exporting their music to the world. 2017-18 figures from APRA AMCOS show a 144% year-on-year increase in overseas digital earnings for local artists, illustrating the growing appetite for Australian music internationally.
On Apple Music, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA will create and share playlists highlighting Australians showcasing at international conferences such as South by Southwest, Reeperbahn Festival and The Great Escape, along with specially-curated playlists featuring the cream of Australian classical, jazz and art music. There’s also SOUNDS AUSTRALIA SELECTS, a monthly playlist of new releases from the almost 800 artists who have showcased with SOUNDS AUSTRALIA in the past decade.
“It’s incredibly exciting to work with Apple Music and put Australian music front and centre on one of the world’s largest platforms for music discovery,” says Dom Alessio, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA’s Digital Export Producer. “This partnership marries both our organisations’ passions for Australian music and the desire to see great talent prosper.”
