As Canadian music flourishes in international markets, Canadian Music Week continues to lead the charge in bringing international business to Canada. After a series of successful spotlights onIndia, China, France, Spain, SE Asia, Latin America, Japan, Brazil, Korea, The Nordic Regions, and most recently Germany, Austria and Switzerland, CMW 2015 (May 5-9, 2015 in Toronto) will see the burgeoning region of Australia take the international focus.
“Australia has a unique musical ecosystem which does not have to rely upon global sales, global distribution or artist success abroad in order to be successful,” said CMW President Neill Dixon. “Their labels are successful. Their distribution foundation is strong. The amount of profitable festivals and music venues remains the highest in the world. The continent is an excellent outlet for Canadian bands to remain active in otherwise down seasons. The economy is motivated, the Australian dollar is climbing and somewhat stable so people can part with discretionary spending. There is a lot that we can learn from Australia and we plan to explore and uncover as much of it as we can at CMW 2015.”
“After establishing and building a significant footprint for Australian artists and industry at Canadian
Music Week over the last 5 years, the time is ripe for us to proudly wear the ‘Spotlight Country’ mantle in 2015,” said Millie Millgate, Executive Producer, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA. “We look forward to consolidating the partnerships and networks already developed with our kindred music nation, whilst forging new opportunities and greater access for more of the incredible talent that’s exploding out of Australia.”
Australia has long been considered a natural trading partner for Canada’s music industry. Its population, along with its Top 10 ranking in the world music market, its position as one of the top 5 major download markets in the world and its booming live music industry, makes it an ideal territory for Canadians to yield results and maximize on success stories.
