Harvey Geraghty (vocals, guitar, keyboard) and Itay Shachar (vocals, guitar) fuse scuzzy guitars and sombre piano tones into music reminiscent of Grandaddy and Smile-era The Beach Boys. Together with their dynamic rhythm section Blake Wise (bass) and Noah Martin (drums) they form The Lazy Eyes.
‘Cheesy Love Song’ marked their arrival, a journey of loving vulnerability where warm piano and strings rise from a bed of synths and warped guitars. ‘Tangerine’ picks up the lo-fi threads of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, a nostalgic soundscape inspired by their high school jam sessions where the band cut their teeth on The Flaming Lips covers. ‘The Seaside’, the near seven-minute psychedelic, sun-washed number is the last piece of their debut EP, aptly named EP1, which has been released to critical acclaim from NME amongst others.
The Lazy Eyes’ carefully crafted psychedelic rock has built them a cult following in their hometown of Sydney, winning fans in triple j and the BCC’s Abbie McCarthy heralding the group internationally as ones to watch.
