“Sam has a gift for one-liners. He’s taken something that’s obviously been overwhelming, and something that could really bury you, and he’s turned it into a really beautiful, cathartic album.” – NPR Music
Quivers make cathartic lyric-driven guitar pop with four distinct male and female voices. Started by Sam Nicholson in Hobart, Tasmania, to keep writing after losing his brother in a free-diving accident, the now Melbourne band has since toured Australia, New Zealand, Canada and most recently the USA where they showcased for capacity crowds at SXSW ’19 and then filmed a session for KEXP in Seattle.
NPR’s All Songs Considered described their jangle-damaged debut We’ll Go Riding on the Hearses (Hotel Motel Records) as “a celebration of spirit” and put a later single ‘You’re Not Always On My Mind’ as the 1st song on their Austin100 SXSW preview playlist. KEXP’s John Richards called the same song one of the best he’d heard “in years” and recalled first listening to it “like a weirdo, like 8 times in a row”.
Quivers have toured the following single, ‘When It Breaks’, around Australia as it climbed to #2 on the AMRAP urban charts. Quivers now have a live show honed by touring and shows at Falls, A Festival Called Panama, Mullum and DARK MOFO, and support slots with the likes of Holy Holy, Angie McMahon, and Methyl Ethyl.
They are now getting ready to return to SXSW in 2020, release a cover of R.E.M.’s ‘Out of Time” album for Seattle’s Turntable Kitchen, and tour everywhere they can before dropping this second album.
