“One of the most inventive and exciting indie rock releases of the year.. Bartley has talent, that’s immediately obvious. She can play and sing and write songs to a standard most of us could only dream of. But there are plenty of talented musicians making records. It’s the skewed, subtly unorthodox spin that she puts on guitar-driven indie rock that sets her apart.” – Double J
After captivating Australian and international audiences whilst touring with Julia Jacklin in March/April, Olympia has released her highly anticipated sophomore album, Flamingo. Flamingo is 11 searing tracks representing Olympia’s most personal record to date; full of risk, escalation, and the complex pop unspooling we’ve come to recognise in her work. A striking follow up to debut Self Talk, an album that was nominated for an ARIA award, J Award for Best Video, shortlisted in the Australian Music Prize and selected as triple j feature album.
Olivia Bartley, creative force behind the project, co-produced the album with long-time collaborator Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, Julia Jacklin, DMAs). Flamingo features singles ‘Shoot to Forget’, ‘Star City’, ‘Hounds’ and ‘Come Back’, tracks which have received airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, Radio X UK, & triple j, as well as national & international playlist additions including All New Indie (UK), Indie Pop (US), Indie Highlights (Sweden), Alternative Generation (Germany), New Indie & Alt (Denmark), New Music Friday (AU), Apple’s Best of the Week, and The A List, Amazon’s Brand New Music and Australian Made: Pop, as well at YouTube’s Alternative Uprising, New Aussie Rock & more.
Upon its release, Flamingo was named ‘Album For The Weekend’ on BBC Radio 1 with Jack Saunders, Feature Album on Double J, was featured on Germany’s FluxFM, and received a swathe of brilliant reviews from The Age, Double J, Happy Mag, Pilerats, BUZZ Magazine, Narc Mag, The Belfast Telegraph, Ireland’s Hot Press Magazine, “Dazzling… Flamingo is a powerful sophomore effort. Savour it. 8/10″, and more.
Olympia recently completed support slots for Anna Calvi and Bryan Ferry, as well as a set at Latitude Festival UK and her own headline shows in London, Manchester and Dublin in July, before heading back to the UK/EU in September.
