Multi-instrumentalist Hauskey’s debut single may be titled ‘Slow’ (released Feb 2020), but his ascent to the top of the Australian music scene looks to be anything but.
Originally from Perth, Hauskey’s musical journey started when his Mum booked his first piano lesson when he was three and he “hasn’t really done anything else since.” Hauskey’s work forges his love for RnB, funk and jazz sounds and ties in the storytelling elements that he’s picked up from a deep respect for pop and folk.
Whilst signing to Republic/Polydor in July and sitting amongst a roster of some of his favourite artists, Hauskey is happiest when he’s making music in his home studio. “I’m addicted to writing and creating, so as long as I get to do that every day, I feel like I’m already living the dream. In 10 years, I’d love to be touring half the year, and writing the other half.”
Each single release has had the likes of triple j and BBC Radio 1 showing impressive support, and in November Hauskey shared his debut EP, Slow. ‘Go Wrong’ is his first release in 2021, and it’s another delicious slice of laissez-faire, sunshine-toasted slacker pop with high emphasis on the “pop.” It’s a breeze. A cool glass of Vimto. Just the ticket. Of ‘Go Wrong’, Hauskey says, “If you’ve heard my music, you’ve probably picked up an air of pessimism in my writing. Lately, some exciting stuff has been happening, but my natural tendency to expect the worst is holding me back from enjoying it. And so, we have ‘Go Wrong’; me and my brain being unable to celebrate a win, however small, because it’s so quickly on the lookout for the next stumbling block.”
‘Go Wrong’ is the first new music from an eventual new EP. It’s coming via slowplay/Republic Records, with more details to be announced soon.
