“This might sound like it’s bursting with pretty and dreamy colours, but the lyrics… ‘When I think of you it makes me want to die’. I’ll leave it at that. Love this. Brilliant.” – Claire Mooney (triple j Unearthed)
Denise le Menice is the solo project for Western Australian singer songwriter Ali Flintoff. Having made a mark for herself in Shoegaze outfit Dream Rimmy and with the take no prisoners punk outfit BOAT SHOW, Ali channels her dream pop sensibilities into the songs of Denice le Menice with her trademark melodies and harmonies.
Denice le Menice’s first track, the Garage Band, bedroom recorded ‘Addiction’, made it onto Dinosaur City Records 2018 compilation with a release in the US through Burger Records. Shortly after, Denice le Menice signed to Barely Dressed Records (Huntly, Jack Ladder, Jess Ribeiro). First official single ‘Heart’ was released in October 2018, debuting on triple j’s Good Nights show with Bridget Hustwaite. The track was added to Spotify curated Office Stereo, New Music Friday, Indie Arrivals, Broad Chords and Chords and Cardigans playlists as well as Apple Music Japan’s best of the week list. ‘Heart’ has been added to Fbi Radio (Sydney), RTR (Perth) and triple j Unearthed and has received airplay on triple j, 3RRR (Melbourne) and other key community stations topping AMRAPS’ community radio Metro chart and hitting number 4 on their regional chart. The video clip was added to Rage and MTV. She rounded off 2018 with shows in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.
Early 2019 saw Denise le Menice added to online media outlet Pilerats’ “Ones’ To Watch” list for the year. Her new single ‘Stars’ was released through Barely Dressed Records on the 28th February with a premiere on triple j’s Home & Hosed.
